Full Time Vet Vacancy

This will tell you a little about The Animal House and the type of vet we are looking for to join our team of staff.
The Animal House opened in February 2006 with 1 vet. Now, 19,000 clients and 6-7 vets later we are looking for more staff. We are, ofcourse, looking for a fully qualified vet whose qualifications are recognised to practice in the U.K.
We are known for our friendliness and approachability involving all staff. We know that a client bringing a pet to us is presenting a cherished member of their family and they need not only clinical excellence but understanding and choices. All animals receive a tip-to-toe examination whether it is an initial consultation over a bad leg or a repeat prescription check-up. We like to think we miss nothing.
Our clients tell us that they come because of our reputation and we know that once clients visit us they are unlikely to change vets. A friendly, attentive, thorough vet is a must for us, pedantic, unhelpful, dictatorial vet is not suitable.
The head vet is Hugh Duffin BVetMedMRCVS who is 22 yrs qualified. We are a limited company with 2 directors, Hugh and Theresa Duffin. For practical purposes this means that we are not a corporate or a franchise and do not have lots of share holders or directors. This means that we can make our own decisions on what we buy and who we buy it from. We choose on efficacy and ethics and what vets like to have to do their job well. Hugh is the final decision maker on all things clinical and Theresa concerns herself with P.R., marketing and sending out invoices and non-clinical stuff.
We open 8.30-6.30 Mon-Sat and 10-4 Sun. We only close on Xmas Day and New Years Day. Our Warwick surgery is closed on all Bank Holidays and Sundays. Outside these hours Vets Now emergeny out of hours clinic takes our calls. They have full access to our clinical notes and fax us the next morning with any details of treatment or advice given to our clients. Vets work a 4 day week with a 1 in 5 weekend rota and a built in long weekend off following a weekend at work. There are 5 weeks holiday and we are negotiating 2 weeks unpaid leave to volunteer for WSPA's international disaster work. This could be taken as holiday if it fitted. Around 10% of our clientelle have equines. We are on 24hr call for this shared between all equine vets. (2 of us currently do not see horses). Most of these clients have polo ponies. This means that an out of hours call is rare. Our horse work consits mainly of vaccinations and preventative care with wound stitch ups, sarcoid treatment etc. Any operable colics or anything necessitating a general anasthetic would be referred. We have a portable x-ray system we can take out in the field.
With our large client base we have lots of interesting cases making pursuing further studies/certificates a clear possibility. Several of our vets are currently studying for certificates in differing disciplines. The CPD allowance is flexible depending on what the individual vet would like to pursue. We also have lots of toys to help us do our job well. These include:- 2 digital x-ray systems, numerous rigid and flexible endoscopes, 2 ultrasound scanners (1 dopler), ECG equipment, incubators, lots of orthopaedic equipment and lab at each site with microscopes. We use external labs as we need for things we can't do in-house.
We also have capnographs, blood presure monitors. O2 monitors, oxygen generators and all the nice things that help monitor anaesthesia.
We have an excellent nursing team who are thoroughly dedicated and knowledgeable. This is invaluable help with assistance, great anaesthesia and caring in hospitalisation and post-op.
The attitude of the surgery is not only that we do the best job evey day but that we would like to advance the welfare of all animals in the future. We therefore work closely with the Dog Warden and the RSPCA and numerous local charities. Any animal brought to us is treated with equal respect whether it be a prized polo pony or a pigeon. We have good contacts with several wildlife sanctuaries who rehabilitate any wildlife we have mended. We like to think of ourselves as a 'non-speciesist' surgery.
We have non-profit neutering to encourage clients to have this done for the health and welfare of their pet. This is with pre-op blood tests, full clinical exam, canulation, pain relief, buster collars, etc.
Were prefer to offer non-profit areas rather than cut corners in our standards.
We are constantly growing and are at the stage where we would consider an experienced vet and/or a new graduate. The salary package is dependent on experience and can include car and accommodation depending on the needs of the applicant.
If you think you may like to work with slightly eccentric, busy team please forward your C.V. to:-info@vetanimalhouse.net, or post it to the Warwick surgery, or call Theresa on 01926 730121.
Many thanks for your attention.
