Emergencies & After Hours
The surgery is open seven days a week, and outside those hours we use the dedicated 24 hour emergency service based at Vets Now.
These veterinary hospitals are staffed continuously and operate outside of normal surgery hours, and are fully equipped to provide a full range of emergency treatments.
The vets and nurses that work there are trained specifically to deal with critical care or illness and provide a round the clock service. Hugh has actually worked at the Coventry Vets Now clinic prior to setting up the animal house, to have first hand experience of the service and to ensure it met the standards we have set for our clients (which it did of course). The continuous nursing given to the pets at night exceeds the usual level of care that a conventional practice might provide.
There are two clinics to chose from - one based at the PDSA in Coventry, at Barker Butts Lane, about 20 minutes drive from the surgery.
The other is based at the PDSA in Northampton also about 25 minutes from the surgery, and maybe more suitable for those clients on the Northamptonshire side of the practice.
They are both available for telephone advice or appointments at any time of the day or night when they are providing cover, and will have access to your pet’s notes allowing an understanding of the individuals previous clinical history where appropriate. Vets Now are a separate company to the Animal House and will expect payment at the time of treatment or collection.
With today’s demanding workloads, and health and safety restrictions on working hours, it is not regarded as good practice to expect someone to work a 24 hour day, and so we have elected to use this service – very similar to that of local GP’s. We hope that this arrangement will provide our clients with a continuous high level of support day or night.
The Animal House can arrange for pets which been hospitalised at Vets Now overnight to be transferred back to Rugby, and later in the New Year will be offering an ambulance service to transport pets to Vets Now if necessary.
