About Vet Animal House
We believe in prevention to such an extent that we have a no profit policy on preventative care including vaccinations, flea and worm control, microchipping and neutering.
We also have fully equipped theatres and can offer extensive treatments and diagnostics as we have invested in new and high tech equipment.
Our Staff
VETS
We have lots of vets. They are all qualified from either Bristol, Edinburgh or London and have ammassed more than 59 years experience between them.
The vets' role is to diagnose conditions and give a prognosis so you know how the condition is predicted to develop. They are trained to examine different species, to know what medications to give and what procedures are needed to make your pet pain free and better. They are also educated to assess situations where euthanasia is the only option left to relieve suffering.
Our vets take part in CPD where they pursue continuous studies in all veterinary subjects. Individuals are also studying for certificates (Big extra qualifications) in soft tissue surgery and opthalmology and others are taking extra studies in acupunture.
NURSES
We also have lots of qualified nurses. Nurses are trained in anaesthesia and when a vet is operating a nurse will be controlling the anaesthetic. Nurses prepare animals for surgery and look after them when they are recovering. They also monitor and care for in-patients and run their own clinics in dental health, diabeties and healthy weight. Nurses are trained to microchip, clip claws, change dressings and triage. Nurses also pusue on-going veterinary education on a regular basis.
AUXILLIARY NURSES
We have lots of these too. An auxilliary nurse supports the qualified nurses and they are often also training to become qualified veterianry nurses. They are monitored and assisted by the nurse and vets. They observe the qualified nurses and get to do lots of cleaning, feeding and preparation. Auxilliaries also are party to on-going education.
RECEPTIONISTS
We have lots of receptionists. Their role is to answer the phone as quickly as possible-we do not want to miss any emergency calls-, to greet you at reception, arrange appointment booking, take your payment, organise paperwork and messages. They are trained to know all about parasite control products, insurance portocols and The Animal Plan scheme. They are well versed in their knowldege and know when to refer to a nurse or vet. Receptionists also have on-going education.
Whlist these are the main staff of the surgery we also have visiting vet students who come to us to observe practice. You will not see a trainee for a consultation. We also have volunteers and work experience students. You may not notice these students as their role is to observe to help them pursue a career in veterinary practice.
Do not be surprised if you see a vet or nurse on reception. We like our staff to swap roles where possible. We have also employed numerous people who have skills and qualifications in many diverse areas. Your regular receptionist may well also be a qualified nurse. Our receptionists will also be auxilliary nurses so that the information you receive is fully informed and accurate.
We like to have happy staff. Our aim is that your visit to our surgery will be a pleasant one.
